Leonardo’s site in Genoa Sestri Ponente develops the most advanced technologies available today for baggage handling. The TGR Regione Liguria TV’s report, by Valentina Gregori, describes the systems and solutions designed to improve passengers’ experience and safety.

After the Covid-19-related downturn, air transport and passenger numbers have now exceeded pre-pandemic levels. To meet the needs of baggage handling, a key point in the organisation of an airport, at Genoa Sestri Ponente, Leonardo develops solutions that also exploit contact-less propulsion, IoT (Internet of Things) sensors and artificial intelligence.

This type of system offers advantages such as faster sorting and energy savings, but above all the guarantee that one’s luggage will not be lost or damaged during the journey. Leonardo’s solutions are already used in more than 30 airports worldwide, from Rome to Hong Kong, via France, Germany, the Middle East and soon the United States.
