Thornton Aviation has significantly enhanced its operational capacity at Burbank Airport (KBUR) in California by constructing a new, advanced hangar and increasing its workforce. The maintenance provider, headquartered in Van Nuys, is now equipped to operate from two facilities at KBUR, enabling the simultaneous accommodation of up to six large-cabin aircraft.

“Currently, our team is engaged in the maintenance of a Global 5000, a Gulfstream V, and we are awaiting the arrival of a GIV. Additionally, a Falcon 7X is scheduled for delivery. Presently, there are 14 technicians on site, with a few personnel temporarily assigned from our Van Nuys location to support operations,” stated Rodney Bryant, the general manager at KBUR. “Our long-term objective is to establish a dedicated workforce of 15 technicians at this facility. This will facilitate the efficient management of three to four aircraft simultaneously while maintaining the capability to address unscheduled maintenance requirements.”

Mr Bryant, who transitioned to Thornton Aviation following a distinguished career at StandardAero, brings over 30 years of experience in aviation maintenance and leadership roles. His extensive expertise positions him well to oversee the expansion and operational activities at the KBUR facility.

This expansion is timely, given the increasing demand for aircraft maintenance services, specifically about sophisticated technologies such as Starlink satellite communication installations. The facility consistently manages a minimum of two such installations at a time. Furthermore, there has been a marked increase in maintenance requests from both local clientele and transient operators, further emphasizing the need for expanded capacity and enhanced personnel expertise.
